When Castle set out to design the new Castle Warwick 3, they wanted to create a stand mounting loudspeaker with excellent clarity and dynamics, but with a relatively small footprint. Accordingly, the Warwick's cabinet is constructed from 18mm MDF panels for extra rigidity, further aided by the extensive use of internal damping pads to eliminate unwanted resonances. |
The drive units selected were their proven 19mm low modulus polyamide dome HF, which is offset on the baffle to reduce diffraction effects, and a powerful 150mm diecast bass chassis, furnished with a woven carbon fibre cone and a Kapton voice coil former, wound with copper coated aluminium wire. This special bass unit also has a shaped pole piece to give greater linearity of movement, or punchier piston power. Careful measurement and tuning of the reflex enclosure has combined with this excellent driver combination to provide bass extension below 50Hz, and smooth transition between the drivers is provided by a minimalist crossover which uses only top grade components, chosen for their sonic capabilities. The result is crisp, clear sound, with good dispersion characteristics and a powerful, solid overall feel. | Shown here in Rosewood veneer |
