Developed for Nintendo by Brit team Rare, this is another fine demonstration of how Gamecube titles seem to effortlessly combine classic gameplay values with brave new ideas. Kameo's ace in the hole involves the idea of creature possession, with the titular heroine using her unique ability to capture young creatures, and then train them for use in battle. |
| To take control of a creature it's first necessary to engage in a battle of wills, playing out a mini-game using the analog controller to keep a target as close to the centre of swirling storm of colours. Succeed and it falls under Kameo's control, and can mature into a fully-grown creature. It's then ready for battle, but in addition to the creature being able to fight for Kameo, she is also able to morph into the creature's body, thus giving players access to all the strengths, weaknesses and special abilities (some even fly), they possess. With more than 60 very different creatures, there's weeks of gameplay just finding out what each one is capable of. | | Each is a real beauty, and some are enormous. Brimming with cool visual effects, and innovative gameplay, Kameo: Elements Of Power is another feather in Rare's already heavily laden cap |
