It perhaps goes without saying that we were impressed by all the Chevalier-Montrachets we tried but this does seem to have been a singularly successful appellation in 2005 and this stunner from Bouchard is case in point. Aged in 1 year old barrels with no new oak to preserve the fruit character, this wine is gorgeously rich with exotic aromas of apricots, spice and almonds, all very ripe but still very poised and elegant. This richness on the nose is perfectly in harmony with the well structured palate which shows fine acidity on the long, long finish. It will be fascinating to see this wine evolve well into its second decade.
