The Express Steamer Goethe is one of the last paddlewheel veterans in European passenger service still driven by a steam engine The Goethe was built in 1913 as a half saloon steamer with a small upper deck and was originally intended as a combined passenger freight ship In 1925 she was converted to a double-deck saloon steamer the smooth foredeck incorporating two closed saloon decks Bombed and sunk she was restored in 1951 52 being extended by 5m in the process As from 1953 the Goethe - no longer fuelled by coal but by oil - once again sailed her routes whereby with a mere draught of 1 5m she displaced no more than 500 tons of Rhine water This 1 160 scale model contains 150 pieces and measures 518mm in length Skill Level 4 - For the more experienced modeller capable of glueing and painting models with up to 150 pieces
